Q&A: SHOT Show Edition
3 years agoI probably should have thought to post this earlier, but here goes anyway. I'll be at SHOT Show this coming week; what questions you would like me to put to companies there? Please specify a company with your question; my plan is to only ask one or maybe two questions to any given company.
HS Produkt/Springfield - Any chance of getting the VHS-2 top rail with integrated optics in the USA? I assume it would fit on the Hellion. Aftermarket maybe?
What advice do you have for someone researching for a firearms history topic. I don't have previous experience contacting sources such as museums. Is there any etiquette I should know?
Hey Ian I hope your trip at ShotShow went well. My questions I wanted to ask is what are the most blatantly dangerous and/or fraudulent firearm or accessory you've seen at ShotShow and what weapon did you see from shotshow that you knew would turn out to be a failure from the start
When is someone gonna make a decent bullpup that doesn’t weigh 8lbs unloaded
Trapezoidal magazines, why did they fall out of favor? Double-feed trapezoidal magazines seem to have a list of benefits from ease of loading to lower cost of manufacture (especially when compared to mags with complex geometries such as the MP5's). Low spring tension doesn't seem to be a problem out of Swedish K magazine when used in a S&W 76, which I assumed was due to less friction. The only fault I can think of is the added width, which is felt in the chunky grip of the CZ Sa.24/26 series. Do you have any insight into why manufacturers like CZ chose a curved magazine for the Evo scorpion instead of a trapezoidal?
I don’t know if this is the right thread, but it’s the only one I see. Anyway, my question is, why aren’t there many (if any) PCC’s in larger calibers, such as magnum rounds or .50 AE? In a platform like a pistol I could see it being too much, but in something more similar to a rifle, it would be much more controllable and could have great potential at close range or for self defense. Additionally, considering there are AR15 platforms chambered for .50 Beowulf, why aren’t there any for .50 AE, to be a smaller and more compact counterpart? I feel that it could be a middle ground that many people would appreciate, so they could have something with more punch without being too heavy or slow to maneuver.
I know this is an old thread, but I didn't see any other Q&A threads, so I'll post my question here. My question is, why haven't we really seen many people explore the combination of the operating systems of an AR-15 and AR-18? Meaning a direct impingement gas system with some sort of captured buffer system inside the upper receiver. I feel like this would give the benefits of d.i. guns (lighter, less recoiling mass) while also being able to have a real folding stock (that you can shoot while folded).
This has been done. Look up Law Tactical ARIC. The reason you likely don't see it often is that shooting firearms folded, while cool, is pretty much useless and if you are someone who actually needs a shorter more handy firearm, then you'd probably just slap a shorter barrel on there or buy an AR-18.
I know some people like folding for storage, especially in backpacks, and there are folding options for AR-15s. But honestly, ARs take down and go together so easily that you can just separate the upper from the lower if you don't plan on going the folder route.
North American Arms: Would they consider making a larger version of their break top revolver in .32 ACP?
If JJE Holdings/PSA/H&R/Nodak are there, ask them literally anything about what their plan is. Retro ARs, Garands, whatever.
Please ask KE arms about the the new KP-9. My WWSD-CRD is now my favorite rifle. Looking forward to a WWSD 2020-9.
If your new gun was an anime girl, what kind of girl would it be?
Keltec: Are there any plans to make a .45 ACP Sub-2000?
Keltec: On the KSG, have you considered replacing one of the tubes with a gas system to make a semi-auto version?
Winchester: Do you have any plans to make a reproduction of the Russian Contract Winchester 1895 as well?
Nothing intelligent or world-changing, but:
Ruger/Marlin: When are they going to embrace .327 Federal in a rifle?
People have been asking both companies to do it since 2009. Henry tried it and screwed the initial batch with bad barrels and the wrong model. The Ruger 77/22H, specifically, would be easy and cheap for them to turn into a 77/327, as a starting point. It needs only a modified breech block, new feed lips for the rotary magazine (22H follower should work), and a different barrel.
For magpul + maztech (i think thats the right name on tye second company). With the X4 system will there be efforts down the road to allow for data generated by the X4 system to be used by smart phones runing a land nav apps such as TAK Products ATAK land nav software or other relevant applications (ballistic calcs etc)?
Please Ian, tell Steyr to make a semi auto G62 for the US civilian market and sell it. Just tell them they can stick it to HK by doing so.
Kel-Tec: Would Kel-tec consider releasing a new production version of the Grendel P10 for folks living in ban states, or for those folks who really want a Steyr Hahn, but can only afford Glock prices?
Stop by PSA, they bought out Hill & Mac and are gonna be making the STG
