PJ Living Vlog
This playlist contains videos from Phenix JiRa Living, a vlog showcasing raising chickens, home projects, cooking, garden life, & other random things. I am slowly migrating all of the videos found on YouTube into this playlist. It's going to take a minute or two. If you like videos about chickens or cooking prime rib or how not to do things... this is the place for you!
I've looked for details about when chickens get up in the morning and go to bed at night but usually can only find very general information. After watching my own chickens for a couple of weeks, I have an answer! 12.20 Using my own chickens as an example, if sunrise is at 6:30 am, they are awake at 6:00 am (give or take). They can remain in the coop a while before needing to be let out (10 minutes or so). This is assuming it's a small coop (like mine) and have no food/water. If sunset is at 6:30 pm, they start noticing 20-30 minutes before then that there is an issue and start eating more. Granted, they can tell probably an hour beforehand but for my chickens, it's about 30 minutes ahead of time when they start preparing. They go into the coop about 10-15 minutes after the official sunset time and I close the door sometime after that. Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
I figured out putting kale inside a suet feeder is the best way to feed the chicks without much waste. Phoenix doesn't appear to eat as much as Miss Cloud who is a little piggy. Spit 12.18 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
Today I nearly lost an eye (lol) and I explain the differences between Trinity & Parkour Chick and then between Phoenix and Miss Cloud. We get to experience some quiet moments and then go through the nighttime training. Today was better at least! 12.5 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music #Chickens #Poultry
Today was the first day I have taken any of the chicks outside their coop & attached run. I'm doing it a little at a time so they get used to the idea and return to me. So far so good but we did have a leaf blower challenge! Plus, one of them landed on my hand and scratched me so now I wonder if chicken-scratch-fever is a thing. ;-) 12.19 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
I tell you what... spending time with the chicks when they are wanting to spend time with me, is an amazing thing. Talk about stress management... well that is until those days when they act like chickens. ;-) 12.17 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
Today was a very fun and entertaining day for me with the chicks. They made me laugh so hard I nearly fell off my orange bucket. ;-) 12.12 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
Today has been a pleasant day with the chicks. They really aren't sure what to think of the Canadian geese flying over their coop but they do enjoy their selfies. I also go over their name again since they look different from the last time. 12.11 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
Such a nice relaxing day with the chicks. It's Halloween today and 46 degrees outside. The chicks are enjoying the nice weather (and my lap). 12.10 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
Today was just a normal day of chickens, food, and sitting assignments. Every night the ladies are in a different seating position. 12.6 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
Just another day in the life of 5 chicks here in Phenix JiRa land. Today I explain how I get Spit Fire (and others) to sit on my lap as if it's their idea. Still struggling a bit with the night-time routine but getting closer to the goal. 12.4 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
Today was another first... first taste of Kale. I really want the chicks to go up into the coop themselves. What do we have? Barred Plymouth Rock, Black Star (Black Sex Link), and a Sagitta. 12.3 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
This is chick's first morning to wake in their new coop & they need to venture outside. Parkour Chick decides she's not too young to eat a worm and I give them way too much to do but they don't seem to mind. Getting them to roost at night is a bit of an issue and this may take a few nights. 12.1 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
This is the second half of moving day with some fun adventures and then the evening struggle. The ladies know how to perch but this is a new place and it's scary. 12.1 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
The ladies are 7 weeks old and FINALLY out in the coop. They are loving it (so far). Check out the next video for what happened later that day! 12.1 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
I MUST get these ladies into the coop now! They are so crowded even though the box is very big. The difference between the first week and this one is enormous! 11.30 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
Today was an interesting adventure. Miss Cloud tours the garage and I groove out in the coop checking for drafts. Also making sure the heater and light work. The ladies get to go outside as well and I'm hoping they can take occupancy of the real coop soon. 11.29 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
The ladies successfully perched all night last night and now I'm in the coop with Spit Fire who doesn't seem too sure about it. 11.28 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music #Chickens #Poultry #Coop
Today the chicks had their first taste of oatmeal mixed in yogurt. They loved it. I also took Miss Cloud and Trinity out to the REAL coop to hang out in the chicken run. Too much fun! 11.27 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
During the process of getting the chicks used to the darkness, and witnessing their anxiousness, I decided to try the perch for the evening. 11.26 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music #Chickens #Chicks #Poultry
In this video I explain how I can tell the difference between Trinity and Parkour Chick and then Miss Cloud and Phoenix. As they are growing, I'm paying attention to their differences so I can hopefully tell them apart when they are older. 11.21 Music provided by: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music
