A few notes on rust prevention on chassis that have been blasted and galvanized on the outside, but not so well on the inside. I am seeing some vehicles come in on old chassis that have been dipped and are showing signs of internal corrosion, which are very difficult to repair due to the build up of zinc. Internal corrosion is mainly due to the metal sweating – warm summer days, but cool nights This is one of the reasons why bulkheads rot so much – you have to understand that the bulkhead is made from several overlapping pieces of unprotected steel, which will sweat and corrode Galvanizing bulkheads will not stop the internal corrosion, but a rust preventative like Dinitrol will creep between the lavers of steel and not allow water to contact the bare metal.
