Fusing tree trunks can be a way to get a very thick trunks for your bonsai quickly and early. This process involves taking many small trees trees and growing their trunks close together so they fuse. This forms one trunk thick trunk from many small trunks.
To show this we set up a demonstration about 12 months ago.
In that time we expected to see the trunks fusing together. There should also have been branch development. Our expectations were optimistic.
In some respects you can think of this approach as similar to a tanuki or phoenix bonsai. That is you are creating an illusion.
We were overly optimistic in how quickly we could make that illusion happen. At the same time the delays are not going to cause any harm. This project is not urgent.
This delay also gives us time to organise how we will deal with later issues.
